Although sounding quite basic, it is a challenging task. Concrete, the most widely used building material in the world, is versatile, durable and strong. However, it is also a perishable product. If not handled and installed by a professional contractor, it may be subject to misuse during its installation, leading to problems with its overall durability down the road.

All employees are trained in the system of installing concrete that has made J.C. Miller & Sons one of the finest concrete contractors in the Twin Cities Metropolitan area.
We pay special attention to subsoils, and excavate the proper amount of soil and replace it with a clean, granular material that we compact to not only act as a solid base, but a system to drain moisture, a critical element to slab construction.
Slab thickness is also very important to ensure proper load carrying capacities. For driveways and garage floors, slabs are 5+ inches thick, 4 inches for sidewalks and patios, and a minimum of 6 inches for steps…
To ensure that the concrete works within the design of the slab, we place control joints in the concrete to ensure that cracking occurs in a specific, designated place. Additionally, we use steel reinforcing rods to not only enhance the strength of the concrete, but minimize any potential effects of sub-grade movement from either settling or frost heaving.
Finally, we cure all of our concrete work, so it bleaches to a uniform appearance, but also aids in the ultimate strength development of the materials. Concrete that is not cured may only achieve 50% of its potential strength, which often leads to problems such as scaling, pitting, pop outs and other surface problems. We also make make every effort to make sure that your yard is left in the same condition as it was before the job started.
